Can anyone explain to me how disapproving these FCC regulations will “protect consumers from overreaching Internet regulation” or how it “empowers consumers to make informed choices on if and how their data can be shared”?
It seems like the FCC regulation does exactly that, requiring:
- Opt-in consent of consumers before sharing information covered geo-location data, financial and health information, children’s information, Social Security numbers, Web browsing history, app usage history, and the content of communications.
- ISPs to take “reasonable” steps to protect customers’ information from theft and data breaches.
- Another set of requirements related to data breach notifications was scheduled to take effect on June 2.
It’s amazing to me that every effort to reduce regulation under the guise of benefiting consumers is protested by consumer advocacy groups, while industry lobbyists and advocates always celebrate the changes…
It’s simply profit over people. Profit drives virtually every decision for Republicans. It’s what drives de-regulation and privatization. It’s what drives the call to increase military spending, despite reports of massive waste. All grifters and con-men, just like their leader.
